Maxwell releases BLACKsummers’night on Sony BLACKsummers'night

Maxwell has been gone far too long and he couldn’t return at a more perfect time. A time where R&B/Soul has taken a turn not necessarily for the worst, but a little too left field. After an 8 year hiatus, R&B’s boy wonder returns with the first album of a trilogy which will include the follow-up BlackSUMMERS’night and the final release Blacksummers’NIGHT with both albums containing Gospel and classic slow jams respectively. The first single, “Pretty Wings” has officially reintroduced Maxwell to his longtime followers and those that can use a break from all the sexed up lyrics found in contemporary R&B.

Chemical WarfareThe Alchemist releases Chemical Warfare on Koch

This album has been sitting on my desk for a while now and I haven’t had the chance to give it a listen. But Alchemist is one of those artists whose albums won’t get tossed to the side simply based on his previous work. The album features a variety of cameos from Maxwell, Juvenile, Snoop Dogg and Lady of Rage. Not sure where he found her because she hasn’t been on the scene in years. There’s been mixed reviews given on this album, so I will have to check and assess on my own to see if this ablum gets two thumbs up from me.

Frankie J releases “If You Were My Girlfriend” (single) on Soul Sick/Upstairs Records Frankie J

The beautiful Frankie J releases his single “If You Were My Girlfriend” today which seemed to come out of nowhere considering his last full length album was released a few years ago. Frankie always scores points with me because of “Obsession” from his album The One. I’m humming the song as I type. His new song has a little bit of a Doo-wop ish vibe to it, its one of those songs you have to play back a few times to really get into.
