TeairraWho: Teairra Marí

Height of Popularity: Teairra Marí’s entrance into the music scene seemed to have been a blessing and a curse all in one. She was signed to Def Jam when they seemed to have been looking to add fresh new R&B princesses to their lineup. Both she and Riahanna signed on around the same times and released their albums in mid-2005. Teairra’s single Make Her Feel Good was the first record to be released from her album, Def Jam Present’s Teairra Mari followed by “No Daddy” and “New Sh*t”.

Downfall: Despite being released with what seemed to be good timing, it was up to her to really sell herself to the masses, which seemed to be her downfall. Her name alone was compared to that of veteran songstress Teena Marie, and her sound is constantly compared to Ciara and other similar artists. Teairra MariTeairra didn’t seem to really have her own identity and the outcome was poor album sales followed by falling off the map completely.

Recovery: In 2009 Teairra has emerged in heavy rotation. Not so much on the airwaves, but she’s been spotted out and about doing small gigs here and there. It is unclear whether she is currently signed to a label, however she did release a track earlier this year featuring former Pretty Ricky singer, Pleasure P titled, “Hunt 4 You”. It didn’t generate too much buzz as what she may have hoped for, but its still a good start to revive her career. We should be hearing some noise from Teairra by years-end…well maybe not too much noise or even a buzz. More like a hum. Now is the time for her to make rebirth since her forced cohort Ciara seems to be falling off musically.
