Writer’s Block Is A Bi*ch!

Filed under: Chat 'bout — Felicia @ 10:39 pm

I’ve been really bugging out. I’ve gotten into a groove with my writing and can usually knock out an assignment within 24 hrs if there’s an immediate deadline; or a few days or so if its not too urgent. I’ve been sitting one assignment for a minute now. I won’t say how long, its pretty sad. Funny thing thouh is as i’m writing this post I have ideas bouncing around in my head on how I want to angle this piece.

If I get hit with a serious case of writer’s block, I have several different remedies that actually work for me. It all depends on where i’m at and when the block strikes. Gnarls Barkley Typically if i’m on the computer where I spend most of my evenings, I would search random sites, type in certain key words, look up information on the artist, album, movie, etc. in question to get my thoughts in motion. Sometimes I like to listen to music completely un-related to the artist i’m writing about. One of my favorite songs to listen to (on repeat) is Gnarls Barkely’s “Going On” from their The Odd Couple album. I don’t know why this record in particular; i’m just naturally drawn to all things outside of the norm. Check the live performance from Letterman below:

  1. What ever it takes I guess! Me, I have my idea box to stave off writer’s block. If I have a lot of ideas, I fill it all in and drop it in the box. If I’m lacking them, I dig out pieces till I find one interesting and take it from there. It’s slow, but it works! ^^

    • Know what’s funny? I do something similar as well. I always keep a little notepad handy, so I always jot things down if i’m away from my computer. Sometimes i’ll even pull out my blackberry and write a long email message with any ideas I have, then email it to myself and look it over later.
