Sucka Emcees take Heed

Filed under: Flashback — Felicia @ 9:45 am

This weekend was another one for the record books in Hip-Hop history. The group that brought “Christmas to Hollis”, showed you how to rock “My Adidas” and proclaimed “You Be Illin’” is now the second Hip Hop group to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame behind Grand Master Flash and the Furious Five. Run DMC

The show was opened to the fans this past weekend in Cleveland, OH as Rev Run and DMC accepted the honors keeping DJ Jam Master Jay in memory and every bit as part of the celebration. As Eminem presented the group with the award he stated, “Two turntables and a microphone, that’s all it took to change the world”. And that’s what they did with a career that spanned from 1984 – 1999, being the first Rap group to fuse Hip Hop and Rock together with their collaboration on Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way” from their 1986 album, Raising Hell.

A story of the group’s early beginnings is loosely portrayed in the 1985 film, Krush Groove directed by Michael Schultz. In the film which is based on the early beginnings of Def Jam Recordings, several artists on Def Jam’s roster were introduced to the mainstream including LL Cool J, Kurtis Blow, Beastie Boys and Run DMC among others. Run DMCAfter being told 24 years ago that they didn’t belong in the Rock n’ Roll museum, they’ve definitely proved all sucka emcees and the like wrong.
